I mentioned it a while back, it is just a box-set of the existing pocket editions, nothing new. Current UK publication date is 19th November 2015.

Hello all,

Followed your threads for quite some time but never got around to creating an account and saying hello.

I noticed that The Story of Kullervo has been listed on Amazon.co.uk as a Slipcased edition, I presume much like the existing ones.

The Story of Kullervo - Amazon UK

I never considered myself a collector as I have nothing very rare but somehow I looked back at my collection to find no space and 200 books sitting there and growing all the time. A snip of the collections I see from many of you here.

I wish you all well.

I am checking with HarperCollins, thanks for mentioning this

200 books, I think you are a collector, welcome to the site

I had a reply from HarperCollins.

"Yes, we are planning this to be a Deluxe edition along the same lines as the others - The Fall of Arthur etc."

So it is in the same format as the existing Deluxe Editions.

That is great, thank you for checking that.

It is now listed on Amazon.de but no price yet and as I am an expat in Germany I will no doubt order it from them.

I'm surprised there is enough interest in this for a Deluxe Edition. I'm somewhat of the opinion that it should probably have remained in Tolkien Studies.

Hi Stu

Not to sound confrontational as I am new but I don't understand why it remaining in Tolkien Studies alone enables many more readers to enjoy it?

We are lucky enough to read it but most people I know can not justify the expense or do not have access to the Studies in any form to have read anything in it. I like the hardcover release very much of Kullervo, I do get the opinion that a deluxe release is a bit much but a standard release surely only helps people access more of the works.

Because the publisher doesn't make it clear that is of limited interest to the typical Tolkien "fan", but markets it as if it is. I guarantee you that most people who purchase the book (or have it purchased for them) will not get a great deal of value from it.

IMHO, not everything is worthy of publishing in a separate volume, and stuff like this would be better in a volume of collected works (with less padding). That makes less money, though.

A Deluxe edition is just ridiculous.

I see your point, there is much padding to this so I can most certainly agree about a "collected" sort of release. When I saw this was being released I did think it would have been great to see it filled out with unreleased poems and maybe some unreleased letters from that period rather than so much in the way of notes and so on.
