If you are looking for one, keep in mind that more will show up given enough time. This isn't the last copy on earth. ?
This is my collecting mantra, so I don't lose sleep over stuff I've lost out on in the past
This seems to be the most hot item on the market though. I think it’s gonna go for a unusually huge number. It’s pretty good condition too

So there have been four come up for sale, including this one, in the past three years. Here's what they went for.

So, this one is already over what the market says they're worth with this small amount data.
At the time of this writing it's now eclipsed $1200. Do these people know it hasn't auctioned for anywhere near that recently? I'm confused at the volatile nature of these prices.

Plot twist: trotter actually listed this and he’s trying to drive us to bid higher and higher

I think I sold the last one that appeared for sale in 2021, privately through this site for £150, though that copy had no spine.
I also think this is good for the bookshop, can't imagine that they spent more than £5-£10 on the book. They follow me on Twitter and I have posted pictures of my copies of the books saying that they are rare. They have done their research on the book, through this site and https://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=134.
This bookshop was in serious trouble a few years ago with no sales at all on one day (three years ago), but using social media positively they have turned around the business.
Very positive to see independent bookshops thrive

"The Tolkien Collecting Website" They couldn't even get our name right...
With humble apologies. We have erred and strayed and got the name of the @tolkienguide website wrong and this has been a source of scandal on the forums!

Very happy to direct people to their excellent websitehttps://t.co/K9G2e6dZpv

That's great Trotter, thanks for sharing that!

I’ve never liked it to be honest! I know it’s very collectable but I wouldn’t want it.
Same. I understand scarcity drives the price of this edition, but if I owned a copy, I’d sell it to buy something I actually like and desire to own.
If I did not already own this edition, I'd sell something to buy this edition, one of the highlights of my collection and a fantastic cover.
We'll have to agree to disagree about that cover because I think it is quite hideous.
