Honestly, that looks quite nice. Haven't seen the dimensions, but I'm suspecting it will be smaller than the previous issues, and will instead match the Art of TH and Art of LoTR.
Edit - checked it is listed as 261 x 261, which indeed matches the H&S art books.
I pre ordered this a while ago but thought I can always cancel it. However, I don’t have a Pictures original. Even though most or all of this is probably covered in other books now? I like the look of that cover and slip.
Wow, this is gorgeous.
I’ve been thinking of getting a 1979 edition, but honestly I may just get this one instead (and save some $60 in the process).

I had this preordered expecting I would cancel but I really like that and I'm a sucker for Tolkien’s art. I really like the look of that finish.

I was hoping that was the case. I adore those H&S books and this matching is great.
Ok, I was on the fence about this one. However that is a handsome book. It will look nice next to my other art books.
Fortunately the order I placed for the 1st edition was cancelled due to shipping issues. Good saving + a very nice books that matches AotH and AotLotR!
I wonder if they'll publish A&I in the same format...

Does A&I fall into the same category as these three books (Art books and Pictures)? I was under the impression that A&I is of a somewhat different format - more text to accompany pictures - whereas Art books are heavier on pictures.Ecthelion wrote:

Also, if there's someone who has - like myself - somehow managed to miss out on the Art books - Waterstones webshop states that the publisher is reprinting the Art of the Hobbit. It was available in a few shops (WS, Bodleian, Foyles) until maybe a few weeks ago. Now it's nowhere to be found.

I’m seeing the Art of the Hobbit is available at BookDepository and the Nile. Am I missing something?

The HoughtonMifflin edition is available at BookDepository but the HarperCollins edition is not.
The HMH edition does not come with the slipcase.
