Cecil Lewis of Lincoln College writes to Tolkien in regard to Tolkien's entry in the Year's Work in English Studies. He notes that "On page 43 you suggest that the theory should be applied to some concocted text, and you make mention of a rumour that this has already been done. The test was proposed by Professor Haas Lietsmenn, of Jena, and the results are to be found in pp. 223-229 and pp. 401-219 of the Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen, Jahrgang 181 (1919)."
He concludes that Tolkien's view is correct.
