Tolkien writes a letter to J.L.N. O’Loughlin. He is currently organising courses for the Navy and Air Force cadets. At a board meeting which Tolkien did not attend, he was appointed chairman of a committee 'to reconsider the regulations for Examinations (other than Emergency Examinations) under the supervision of the Board'.
This letter is said to be held at Oxford University archives (Oxford University Archives FA 4/5/1/1) and a partial transcript and auction advertisement are available to see at the Marquette archives. But, the Wade Center also claim to have this letter among their collection. It is suspected the original is held in Oxford but without confirmation this must be judged as contentious.
