Replying to a letter from Tolkien (at this time I have no date for that letter but it is almost certainly to congratulate Tolkien that both of them had been considered for publication in Oxford Poetry 1915).both were accepted and a poem from each was published. 'Goblin Feet' by Tolkien, and 'Songs on the Downs' from Smith.[1] He remarks on this "notable achievement".
He again urges Tolkien to contact Colonel Stainforth and concludes that he will be in Oxford from 16 to 18 June if he wishes to meet.
