Rayner Unwin to Pauline Baynes says that GA&U are very happy to commission the Hobbit map, entitled [There and Back Again] as soon as she can fit it in, though they still have not approached Tolkien.
It will not be a high royalty as they have to pay copyright-holder of the map, that being Tolkien, and marking of posters involves extravagant discounts.
For A Map of Middle-earth the contract was £150 plus £50 for first reprint, plus £100 from the American edition if it goes ahead. For this poster is prepared to offer £150 advance on account of a royalty of 2½% of net receipts. Not sure which would be best for her. Asks what she thinks. Puline wrote ‘March’ on letter and made an obscure pencil sketch.
