Christopher Wiseman had written to Tolkien on 1 March 1916,see Letter from Christopher Wiseman to J.R.R. Tolkien • 1 March 1916 (#1320)[1] saying that Tolkien liked "little, delicate, beautiful creations" but he was "more thrilled by enormous, slow-moving, omnipotent things". Tolkien replies that the "the Eldar, the Solosimpe, the Noldoli [different kindreds of Elves in his mythology] are better, warmer, fairer to the heart than the mathematics of the tide, or the vortices that are the winds …"
