Newby writes to Tolkien asking if an examination of the eighteenth-century Grammarians would make a suitable subject for a talk on the BBC's Third Programme. This stems from his memory of Tolkien's criticism of "Grammarian's English" and is interested in how far Tolkien would defend this position.
Tolkien will reply on 3 MayCarpenter #144a: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to P.H. Newby • 3 May 1954 (#1441)[1] saying that it would make a suitable "broadcast-talk".
