TCG Letter #1367 / Carpenter Letter #8b

Writing to, Christopher, Tolkien says he misses his son but that he is glad Christopher’s little holiday has begun with fine weather. He discusses the weather of London and Oxford and talks about his day in the garden. He and Edith had visited with the Wrenn's the previous night.

He makes a brief mention of the 'Pearl' being done badly.^{Tolkien had presented his Modern English translation of Pearl for publication in early 1936, which had been rejected, but Guy Pocock, newly of the BBC had suggested the translation be read in part on BBC Radio. See Chronology, p. 193, entry for '?By early 1936'.[1]} He goes on to say that The Hobbit is nearly complete.
