Tolkien had not managed to send Christopher his pipe yesterday, and sends it on to him with this letter. He and Edith received a long letter and were happy to read of Christopher enjoying some normal activities. Tolkien is critical of some of the conditions “on the ground” in the R.A.F. but mentions that this is the case during war.
