Transcript

Tolkien writes to Dan Davin of the Oxford University Press (OUP) saying that he has returned any material that be useful. The material related to the failed attempt by Tolkien and G.S. Gordon's book of Chaucer poetry.

Tolkien asks that the material be returned to him eventually, if possible. He is deeply regretful, and that these papers would remain unpublished. In 2019 John M. Bowers would publish Tolkien's Lost Chaucer which published for the first time some of Tolkien's notes and this letter along with various images of working books.
