Reynolds writes to Tolkien offering congratulations on the birth of his and Edith's first child.^{John Francis Reuel Tolkien was born 16 November 1917[1]} He thanks Tolkien for a parcel, and for including his poetry collection which Tolkien was at that time working on.^{The Book of Lost Tales[2]}

He also makes mention of Sidgwick & Jackson's interest in publishing a collection of G.B. Smith's poems.
