TCG Letter #1619

Following his letter of 14 June, ^{Letter from George S. Gordon to Kenneth Sisam • 14 June 1923 (#1618)[1]} Gordon writes again to Kenneth Sisam. Tolkien has agreed to provide the glossary for the Clarendon Chaucer and will begin as soon as he recieves the texts. They hope to be finished by September.^{As it transpired, the work would never be finished and the matter will be mentioned in letters as late as 1953. See Tolkien's Lost Chaucer by John M. Bowers for an illuminating history of the Clarendon Chaucer and the ultimate failure of both men to complete their work.[2]}

Peter Gulliver says that in the letter, Gordon suggested that Tolkien had hoped to have the glossary completed by October of the same year.^{Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Sources of Inspiration, pp. 64-5.[3]}
