Kenneth replies to Gordon's letter Letter from E. V. Gordon to Kenneth Sisam • 10 November 1923 (#1620)[1] agreeing to a revised page count for Sir Gawain, Gordon and Tolkien's edition can now contain 200 pages. He asks for the proofs to contain few corrections and notes that he must recieve some of the copy before 23 April or else it will be a struggle to publish for the new academic year.
In an earlier letter,Citation needed[2] Gordon had asked if the OUP would be interested in a modern translation of Sir Gawain, Sisam asks for a sample of the text, and suggests lines 2000–2200. Gordon will reply Letter from E. V. Gordon to Kenneth Sisam • 15 November 1923 (#1623)[3] that Tolkien had produced a translation of those lines and they will prepare a version for Sisam to see.
