To
George Sayer
Date
24 June 1953
Type
Typed Letter Signed
Transcript

Tolkien opens this letter by immediately apologising for using his typewriter. He is having trouble with his hand and is resting it. George had asked Tolkien when he might be free for a visit, and as yet Tolkien cannot give any dates due to family commitments.
He asks George to give him details on his new recording machine, which will later record Tolkien reading selections from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien is interested in a Grundig reel-to-reel machine, probably a Grundig "Reporter" 500L.
