John Johnson of the Oxford University Press writes to the historian Henry David on the matter of the proposed Middle English series of texts. He notes that Tolkien, with C.T. Onions had argued for normalization of texts with Kenneth Sisam and David Nichol Smith arguing against. He notes that this "contrariety" will bring Sisam back to the "field again" and away from "commerce".
