In a letter to his friend, Arthur Greaves, Lewis mentions his conversation with Tolkien in which they discuss, among other things, their agreement that the term romance is used too broadly to include works that do not belong to the genre. Lewis says "that for what we meant by romance there must be at least the hint of another world – one must hear the horns of elfland"
