To
Edith Bratt
Date
14 January 1916
Type

Transcript

Hilary Tolkien writes to Edith thanking her for her letter and parcel. He gives an update on matters in France and the hopelessness of the war. He remarks that he would rather be fighting with Germany against France as he has not met one who is likeable. He hopes to be back in England before her birthday in 1917. He wishes her a happy birthday for 1916 as he will not have opportunity to write before the day.
