R.W. Chapman writes to George S. Gordon who it is assumed had mentioned Tolkien's increased salary. He is pleased, and also that Tolkien has been awarded the Leverhulme Research Fellowship. But he also notes that the Clarendon Chaucer has been dormant for more than ten years by now and does not think Tolkien will ever finish his parts of the volume. Kenneth Sisam has suggested E.V. Gordon or J.A.W. Bennett to fill the position in Tolkien's place.
