C. A. Furth of GA&U writes to Tolkien to inform him that the 'fine lines' in The Trolls illustration have broken when reproduced, but that there is no room to enlarge the image.
They will discuss this and other matters when Furth visits Tolkien on 27 February.Hammond/Scull note that it is likely at this time that Furth asks Tolkien to produce a cover for the Hobbit.[1]
Under different cover, Letter from George Allen & Unwin to J.R.R. Tolkien • 24 February 1937 (#1852)[2] GA&U send to Tolkien the remaining proofs of The Hobbit. In the cover letter he is asked to replace corrections only if unavoidable and to replace with words that fit as closely as possible to the original words. Hammond/Scull note that either with this these, or "soon afterwards, he is sent rough proofs of the remaining two drawings, which are to be included in The Hobbit."
