Having not heard from Tolkien since her last letter, Letter from Mabel Day (Early English Text Society) to J.R.R. Tolkien • 2 June 1937 (#1921)[1] Mabel Day writes again. She notes that most members agree with him, but that senior member A. W. Pollard considers it unnecessary and in fact not advised. Pollard is annoyed that Tolkien has not as yet provided details of his reasoning. Day asks Tolkien to provide a copy of approximately 32 pages to show how a line-by-line printing would work and further asks for a two-page example of contractions not expanded, with a passage of Latin.
