Tolkien was delighted to receive a letter from Mr. John Staniforth referring to himself as a "sexagenarian". Tolkien cites his noticing of the songs in The Lord of the Rings and notes that Mr. Richard Hughes also noticed.
Tolkien mentions that The Hobbit continues to sell well and although the first and second editions were lost to a fire, a new reprint retains the frontispiece of the Hill among other drawings by him.
