Tolkien writes to GA&U and encloses the most recent photograph of himself as requested by Susan Dagnall. [/footnote]By letter or in person?[/footnote] He asks them again about Houghton Mifflin's need for colour illustrations as he does not want "labour in vain".Hammond/Scull note however that Tolkien has already "made four colour for The Hobbit: Rivendell, Bilbo Woke Up with the Early Sun in His Eyes, Bilbo Comes to the Huts of the Raft-elves, and Conversation with Smaug."[1]
