In a letter to Tolkien, C. A. Furth notes that he has written to Houghton Mifflin asking that Tolkien's specimen drawings be returned and asks them to consider a fee to be paid to Tolkien. He also says that if The Hobbit is to be reprinted that GA&U will use the colour illustrations, with a small fee paid to Tolkien if that happens. Included with the letter is a sample full-page advert that will in trade papers.
GA&U will use Tolkien's blurb in future printings but note that it will likely be reduced by quotations from reviews.
