TCG Letter #206
From
J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Mrs. Dixey
Date
28 July 1955
Type
Autograph Letter Signed
Transcript
Complete
Tolkien wishes that Mrs. Dixey will enjoy reading the as yet unpublished Return of the King, telling her that there are about 100 pages of appendices. It must be assumed this related to questions from Mrs. Dixey that will be answered in the Appendices. He hopes the success of these books will help him get the "the Legends of the First and Second Ages" published.
He also discusses his South African roots and finishes saying that his earliest memories of the Orange Free State might be why they have heard tales of the far South in The Shire.
A complete transcript along with original auction advertisement can be seen at the Marquette archives.
