Salmon had visited Tolkien in Oxford the previous day^{see Chronology, pp. 220-1[1]} and they had organised a date for their Beowulf broadcast but he writes to say that the date is no longer available. He suggests that they broadcast on 14 January 1938 from 10.45pm to 11pm. He notes that he will write again to arrange a rehearsal.^{Hammond/Scull, Chronology, p. 221[2]}
