Tolkien sends a small consignment of "The Ring," consisting of the last two chapters that have been written and the end of the Fourth Book. The hero is in a difficult situation, and Tolkien expresses eagerness to hear Christopher's thoughts, having written with him in mind. He provides details about the chapters sent earlier and outlines plans for the upcoming sections of the story. Book Five is set to open with Gandalf's ride to Minas Tirith, followed by the raising of the siege and a parley with Sauron.
In another letter sent on this day, Tolkien updates Christopher on his lectures, the weather, and that they finally found out the date of C.S. Lewis' birthday, that being this very day, 29 November. He, the Lewis brothers, Charles Williams and some others had an early trip to the pub and used it to celebrate Lewis' birthday.
