Stanley Unwin replies to Tolkien's letter of 19 December.Carpenter #37: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Stanley Unwin • 19 December 1939 (#52)[1] He says that it would be a relief to receive Tolkien's work on the Clark Hall Beowulf, remarking that it need be only a few hundred words. He says that Rayner would welcome the chance to read the sequel to The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings. He says that he would still prefer to see Farmer Giles of Ham published after The Lord of the Rings.
He concludes by noting that Tolkien is due a £100 royalty payment in April 1940 and offers to advance that to Tolkien.
