Writing to Dan Davin, Sisam describes Tolkien as "a rogue." He bemoans Tolkien's delays on a number of titles, remarking that Tolkien "has had Middle English Studies held up for 20 years" due to his lack of progress on the text of the Ancrene Riwle, noting that Tolkien's "time is given to fairy stories".
