This letter remains unpublished and little is known beyond one quote, Tolkien says that "One must write to a map in being or times and distances get hopelessly wrong."
At Marquette can be found a photocopy of the original and complete transcript, with the original letter found in MSS-4, Box 2, Folder 42. It was a gift to the archives from Ms. Rachael Balyeat in May 2014.
