TCG Letter #2363

From
Basil Blackwell
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
27 August 1942
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
Basil Blackwell writes to Tolkien, offering his delight at the translation on Pearl which Tolkien had loaned him. He asks if Tolkien would be willing to write an introduction for "lay" readers, rather than students, and remarks that he would be willing to buy the copyright and to publish it. While Tolkien had offered various translations to Kenneth Sisam, he agrees to Blackwell's suggestion.
