The Plimmers had recently interviewed Tolkien for the Daily Telegraph Magazine, and had now sent him a draft of their article, the finished version of which was published in the issue of 22 March 1968. Tolkien responded with corrections on their draft, and a two page cover letter.

Two additional paragraphs from the letter are quoted in the 1980 auction catalogue from Biblioctopus (see reference below) not included in Carpenter's Letters.
