In an update to his letter of 24 Januarysee Carpenter #347b: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Sterling Lanier • 24 January 1973 (#835)[1] Tolkien confirms that he has asked for GA&U to help clear up the matter of the copyright situation and thanks Lanier for clearing up his query regarding the arrival of his book. In a handwritten post script Tolkien concludes that he would be happy if Lanier paid a small royalty to United Artists who now had the rights to merchandise based on Tolkien's books.
