From
J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Donald Swann
Date
12-13 July 1967
Type
Autograph Letter Signed
Transcript
Complete
Tolkien does not like the calligraphy being made by Samuel Hanks Bryant as filler for blank pages in The Road Goes Ever On. Tolkien objects to Swann using parts of his Tengwar as page decorations in The Road Goes Ever On.

He concludes by saying that Elvish should be treated seriously, and he doesn't like all the vowel-signs scattered around as ornaments.

A copy of this letter is held at the Wade.
