GA&U Press Release: "George Allen & Unwin Ltd are pleased to announce the sale of the film and certain allied rights in J.R.R. Tolkien's famous book THE LORD OF THE RINGS to United Artists."
United Artists would ultimate fail in making an adaptation, selling the rights in 1976 to Saul Zaentz Company who would go on to license rights to Rankin/Bass and The Hobbit would be released in 1977.
