Tolkien informs Rayner that he has had a meeting with Forrest J. Ackerman, acting for three persons, who were interested in filming The Lord of the Rings, they have left some drawings and storyboards with him. Tolkien notes that he liked the drawings by Ron CobbRon Cobb was a concept artist, known for his work on Star Wars, Alien, Back to the Future among many other movies.[1] , and will send the material to Rayner once he has had time to consider them. He says that at a glance, they show more promise than the material "contrived" by the BBC.
He mentions that he is keeping 10 September for the International Fantasy Awards luncheon but is yet to receive an invitation.Philip Unwin telephones Tolkien that evening to explain that the invitations were delayed but his will be posted later that day.[2]
