Tolkien tells Rayner that he would like his translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to be published next and details his work on Ancrene Wisse. He says this work will not delay any work on the Legendarium. But in a portion not included with this newly published excerpt, Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull detailChronology, pp. 574-575[1] that Tolkien has gotten himself into a mess as he has also promised Heinemann Sir Gawain for their Poetry Bookshelf.
He notes that the Ancrene Wisse will be soon heading to proof.This strike will delay the proofs of the Ancrene Wisse until February 1960[2]
