Tolkien informs Rayner Unwin that he is now "in residence" until 2 October and will return on 10 October as he is once again involved in term. He is standing in for C.L. Wreen. A pleasant surprise but timing is not.Chronology, p. 626[1]
Rayner had asked him for a list of addressesRayner had written to Tolkien (8 June 1962) and asked if he had kept any fan mail that Allen & Unwin could extract names and addresses from to send information on the new book. See Chronology, p. 624[2] and Tolkien says that he hopes to have a list made from his fan mail but at present has no help.Chronology, p. 626[3] He mentions a project led by composer Thea Musgrave, who wishes to write a musical base on The Lord of the Rings. The text would be adapted by Scottish author and poet Maurice Lindsay. Tolkien describes her visit.Chronology, p. 624[4]
