Gilson replying to Tolkien's long letter Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Rob Gilson • June 1913 (before June 10) (#1141)[1] asks whether Tolkien could attend some dates, he asks if Tolkien can play tennis on 14 June, if he will be in Birmingham for the King Edward's School Sports, 14 June, and Speech Day, 28 July.
Gilson also mentions Tolkien's "adventures and encounters with the arms of the law" and asks that he give a full account of it when the TCBS next meet.Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Sources of Inspiration, p. 20[2]
Tolkien will reply that he is in Warwick, likely until 28 June or 1 July but Hammond and Scull note that Tolkien did attend King Edward's School Sports (see entry for 27 June-1 July 1913, 9. 50).
