It is assumed Tolkien wrote to Edith in the evening after meeting the Mexican boys that day who he will accompany to Paris. At Charing Cross he meets Mr. Killion and the young Mexican boys Ventura and Jose. He tells Edith they are nice boys, "jolly", and "quiet". This letter is followed by another the next day.
