Tolkien says that as Rayner knows, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil began, with his Aunt Jane. he asks that a complimentary copy be sent to her and charged against his account.
Rayner had asked Tolkien for an update on Pearl and Sir Gawain to which Tolkien informs him that they are complete and awaiting a final revision, afterwhich he will send them to the office.
In a portion not included with the published excerpt,Chronology, p. 631[1] Tolkien asks Rayner if he can recommend a press cuttings agency that he could subscribe to. He had missed the Sunday Times piece by Stanly Unwin. - He agrees to dropping the sentence from the Fellowship of the Ring about an 'index' but in the event it is not removed from his original 'Foreword'.
