Gordon writes to Sisam informing him that Tolkien has agreed that his place on the Clarendon Chaucer should be taken by another and he has agreed to retire from it.Regardless of this, Tolkien remains on it and future correspondence will show that he continued to work on it beyond this time and is still listed as working on the project in October, 1924.
