Tony Davison writes to Humphrey Carpenter after reading The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien and J.R.R. Tolkien: A Biography. Davison had asked Carpenter if he planned more on Tolkien and Carpenter in his reply Letter from Humphrey Carpenter to Tony Davison • 31 January 1982 (#1662)[1] suggests that another volume would be underwhelming to all but the most "hardcore" of Tolkien readers as he and Christopher included "everything of great importance or interest".
He suggests his biography on W.H. Auden as further reading of his work but notes it is an expensive volume and doesn't suggest he buy it.
Tony had noted a possible error in the original edition of Letters, which Carpenter says is "certainly plausible".More research is needed on this matter.[2]
