In their J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Chronology, Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull note that "Tolkien resumes correspondence with R.W. Reynolds". Tolkien and he had not written in many years and as noted by John Garth,Tolkien and the Great War, p. 279[1] Reynolds had retired to Capri in the Bay of Naples because of his wifes health. When she died toward the end of 1925, Reynolds wrote to Tolkien again on the subject of Tolkien's Lost Tales which Tolkien had long abandoned.
