In reply to Tolkien's letter,^{Carpenter #33: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to C.A. Furth • 31 August 1938 (#37)[1]} Furth sends an update on the matter of translations of The Hobbit. GA&U have not progressed with translations into French and German but the German publisher has signed the contracts and are awaiting permission to conclude the advance payment. Furth offers to send Tolkien's share in advance immediately as he believes the payment will arrive shortly.
