Susan Dagnall, at George Allen & Unwin, gives Tolkien feedback from the production department about adjustments that will need to be made to the five proposed maps for The Hobbit in order for them to be printed with the book. She has detailed suggestions about changes needed to colours, line thicknesses, and how to indicate various features such as rivers, forests and coastlines, in order for them to be best reproduced, at one point emphasizing Tolkien might draw them "as done by professional cartographers!"
She suggests red and blue, or any other two colours. She thinks that the maps of Thror's Map and Wilderland would suit being endpapers. She mentions that the moon letters on Thror's map would be very complicated to reproduce and asks how important they are. She has asked the GA&U production departmentC. A. Furth[1] to start submitting proofs to Tolkien for his consideration. She concludes that the star ornament will be removed.
