TCG Letter #545

In an earlier letter^{See Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to James Heaf • 28 February 1964 (#544)[1]} Tolkien had suggested that James Heaf read his forthcoming book The Silmarillion. He now regrets that The Silmarillion might not be in print for some time to come: "I still have a professional task to clear away before I can return to the labour of putting the legends of the other world in order. I am under contract to publish my translations of two medieval poems by an unknown author: Sir Gawain and the Green Knights and Pearl".

He goes on to give Heaf various suggestions of books he may read, drawing attention to the use of metre and rhyme in different works, he explains his cautious attitude to literary theories, and talks a bit about anthroposophy and C.S. Lewis.
