Tolkien expresses dissatisfaction with the current script for the proposed film version of The Lord of the Rings.

Previously, Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull detailed a large portion of this letterChronology, p. 539[1] and those portions are now included in the newly published Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien: Revised and Updated. Tolkien describes the ending as "badly muffed".
