Originally published in 1911, this is the revised edition, which was the first to feature Tolkien's contribution in the form of 35 pages of Prefatory Remarks. The book is firmly bound in orange cloth, lettered in black to the spine, the corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, with some fading. The text block is toned, with minor spots of foxing, a neatly written name and address to the front endpaper, some neat ink & pencil annotations to the text, and a small bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Only 1259 copies were printed, with 1097 bound and the rest destroyed by bombing during the Second World War.
